When shopping for your school aged child, prices are sometimes scary! Learn to get the most for your money while shopping for back to school clothes and through out the year.

One of the best ways to get more for your money while shopping for your school aged child's clothes, is to head straight for the sale rack. This usually isn't that big of a deal if you're shopping for your eight year old. If you go into a department store towards the end of a season the amount of clothes on the discount rack will begin to increase. The store is trying to quickly sell these clothes to make room for the next seasons clothes. The discounted rack could hold bargains of up to and beyond 75% off the original price of the clothes. Now many of you are reading this and thinking that summer clothes aren't going to do you a lot of good when winter is coming, that is when you take advantage of the sales for the following year.

Just add a size to what your child is wearing now and you should be all set. I don't however suggest doing this with shoes of any type because children's feet tend to grow slightly faster. Now you're asking about those school clothes that I had mentioned, well all you have to do is school shop for your child in January or February. I'm sure you will be thrilled with the savings as well as not dealing with the crowd of shoppers in late August.

Lots of stores will offer a promotional discount as well. These will come in the form of a special discounted coupon that will attract customers to shop on a low sale day for the stores business. They will also be in the form of an unadvertised sale of a certain percentage off. Being a wise consumer you have to be able to periodically shop the store. The sweater your school age child says they must have is not really needed at the start of the school year and gives you the opportunity to shop for it when there is such a sale.

Another way to get a quick discount if you can't wait to have an item is to open a store credit card. Most stores will offer an additional discount of about 10% if you do so. Just don't let the balance of that credit card go without being paid promptly or you could greatly lose the discount due to intrest rates on the cards.

Another way of saving money while getting new clothes would be to set up a swap with a friend or relative who has a child slightly older than your child. If you do this you won't be spending any money and your child will be happy getting new clothes through out the year as the other child outgrows theirs. You could also be on the giving end of this swap and in turn giving your childs out grown clothes to another. Some department stores will actually replace children's clothes that they still fit in but have worn them out. You should ask your local department stores if they have any programs like this, especially when your child is young and very active or tough on their shoes and clothing. This will save you money when a new size isn't needed, but new clothes are.

There are also upscale consignment stores that sell only name brand clothes for children. The savings are tremendous and the clothes are still in style and new to your child. You may also choose to bring your childs out grown clothes to a consignment store for quick sale and extra money to shop for your kids new clothes.

There are a number of ways to get more for your money when it comes to buying clothes for your school aged child. These are just a few. Be creative when purchasing clothes for kids and don't go overboard because the style is sure to change in a matter of months.
