The Philadelphia trolley system is operated by SEPTA. The letters in SEPTA stands for South Eastern Pennsylvianna Transit Authority. SEPTA operates 8 trolley lines. Each trolley operates in a diffrent area of the city. There are 4 lines that operates in southwest Philadelphia. There is one line that operate in West Philadelphia, but there are 3 line that operate in the suburbs.
Here is a look at the four southwest trolley lines. Route 11 travel in Delware county to downtown Center City Philadelhia via way of Woodland Ave. Woodland Ave has very little trees but does offer a view of Philadelphia urban neighborhood.
Route 13 also travel from Delware County from the cities of Yeadonor Darby dependingon the time of day to center City Philadelphia. This trolley snakes around Chester Avenue. This routehighlights some of the big Victorian Houses in Southwest Philadelphia.
The Route 34 travel from southwest Philadelphia to Center City via Baltimore Ave. This route has much to see, the trolley passes thru many parks and the large houses of Southwest Philly.
Route 10 travel via Lancaster Ave to Overbrooksection of west Philadelphia to Center City. This route is verynice. There are many turns and ittravel up and down hills.
Route 36 travels from Eastwick/Elmwood which is near the airport to Center City. This is the trolley that can take you very near to the airport and you can transfer to a bus to the airport. This trolley travels via Elmwood Avenue which has a lot of private homes.
These 4 lines travel above ground while in the Southwest Philadelphia area. All four lines passes near the University City area of Philadlephia. This is the area that is home to some of Philadelphia well known colleges and universitiies. These four lines all end at City Hall 15th street and conect to the subway and to the MArket Franford El. There are also bus connection at City Hall.
The last 3 trolley lines Route 100, Route 101 and Route 102, leaves from Upper Darby in Delware County and travel to the suburbs. The trolley route 100 goes to Norristown and travel along the Schuykill River and offer many sites including Villanova University.
Route 101 nad 102 travels to Media and Sharon Hill. These routes have connections to other busesand other SEPTA rail lines.
The base fare for the trolley is $1.60. This can be paid with cash, token or a fare card.
So no matter where you are in Southwest Philadlphia you are just a trolley ride to Center City.
